The Beans Dad

It's the little things that kill me.

Like when I need ten minutes to put Shan-Shan down for a nap-nap and The Bean gets Special K stuck in her nose. She couldn't have waited until her sister was asleep to shove an extra large flake up a nostril sideways?

Or,
the warning I just noticed on our Kettler "Junior" toddler chair:
WARNUNG: Lassen Sie ihr Kind nicht unbeaufsichtight!Say whaaaa? should I be worried?

Safeway Update

I ended up going back to Safeway Sunday night. I spoke with the manager on duty and she took my name and number telling me that some one would get in touch with me on Monday. My mistake to let her off the hook that easily.

It's 10pm on Wednesday night. Neither of my attempts to complain have earned a reply. Tomorrow things heat up.... unless I lose control of the day and find that 10pm arrives

You are NOT going to believe this...

I'll try to keep this brief and convey my outrage.

The fridge was bare. Very clean but bare nonetheless. I had a list that pretty much read: "get one of everything". I took the girls to our local Safeway.

The Bean was being a pill. Nothing too major-- the usual: hopping on and off the cart and trying to run off. I had things more or less under control-- the usual. She wanted an Odwalla snack

Apparently I'm topically hip... or grossly negligent. You decide.

So yesterday I'm recapping our day with The Wife and I casually complain about the $5 I spent on a beer at the post dad's-group lunch we had with two other dads and their kids. With the beer it was a $22 lunch. Grossly extravagant in our world.

She proceeds to to tell me how alcohol and playgroups have been in the news recently. To my astonishment, The Today Show and the blogging world have been

You just can't buy advertising like this.

Taken from "Baby Love: What to Do When Cupid Takes Aim at Your Child" in the February 2007 edition of Bay Area Parent.
Debbie Katz almost jumped out of her chair when her son announced someone in his class had broken up with their boyfriend.
"He was only 10 or 11 at the time," says the Orinda-based child psychologist. "I didn't think kids that age knew what that meant."Well, darn it all. If

My Name is..... and I'm a Stay at Home Dad

Recently I was talking with an at-home-dad friend of mine. He described his last two weeks as feeling isolated and having no sense of community. I immediately asked "when was the last Dad's Playgroup you've been to?"

He conceded that it had been a while.

So I said "Take it one day at a time and get to the playgroups"

It wasn't until later that day did I realize I sounded like an AA sponsor.

Disney: more harm than good?

As my daughter's love of everything Disney has grown, my distate has swelled. To be fair, it's not ALL Disney I've grown to despise. It's just the classics. Those movies and books that have stood the test of time. The ones targeted at little girls. The stories that The Bean wants me to read over and over again.
I've been able to keep my disdain in check until this week, when I finished

Wanted: Guardians in the event of.......

Yesteday the Wife and I took a morbidly essential step towards responsible parentdom. We met with an Estate Lawyer. Previously, and apparently pathetically negligently deficiant, we merely provided our children with unconditional, undying love and support (along with a house full of educational toys).

In just a few short weeks we will have, in our hands, finalized paperwork for a Trust (this
